Manny Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach originally wanted for Pacquiao to fight Juan Manuel Marquez for their 3rd match-up, rather than the scheduled May 7 Pacquiao vs Mosley fight. Roach believes that Marquez is the more challenging and worthy opponent for Pacquiao than Shane Mosley will be.
Pacquiao's previous two (2) engagement with Marquez really needs to be settled once and for all! There were a lot of controversies beginning with the first fight score cards and the second fight's split decision. Although Pacquiao proved is dominance by beating out far better athletes, there will always be a 'what if' and void feeling for these two great fighters if this third and concluding match should never materialize.
For what it's worth, I think Mosley is in the top 5 list of challengers for Pacquiao (although he's not #1 on my list). Make this fight happen and Marquez can stand in line for his turn. They have previous two match-ups and Mosley deserves this one for now, rather than Marquez. The top 5 worthy opponents for Pacquio on my list in order are - Juan Manuel Marquez, Andre Berto, Devon Alexander, Timothy Bradle and Amir Khan. And yes, you might think I missed a
tickets for mayweather vs pacquiao. He's a legit contender all right, but he's also the king of dodges and has no intention whatsoever in fighting Pacquiao. The reason? Well - that's another story and worthy of another full length article.
At 39, Mosley is nearing the end of his career and a bit past his prime, but still got some mileage under his hood. I just can't see how Mosley can win over Pacquiao, but this fight will be very engaging and entertaining, that I am certain! |
